Site Activity Summary

MGM's Tallering Peak minesite ended iron ore mining in late May 2014. Progressive rehabilitation of the site began in 2008.  The remnant low grade stockpiles (4.0ha) and a portion of the haul road (4.63ha) remain to be rehabilitated in early 2017.  These remaining rehabilitation areas represent 2% of the overall disturbance across all tenements at the minesite.  Besides the remaining 2% of remaining land area to be rehabilitated, all areas of the minesite are now classified as Land to be assessed and signed off by DMP as "Rehabilitated Land".

 

Tenements M70/1063, M70/1064 and G70/193 were approved by the DMP for relinquishment on 8 July 2016.   Table 1 contains a summary of progress towards agreed completion criteria for Tallering Peak.   A case for relinquishment of the remaining tenements associated with the minesite will be submitted to the DMP in mid-2017.

 

During the reporting period, stockpiles of low grade lump and fines were transported from the loadout area to Geraldton port for export.  The remaining low grade fines will be transported to Geraldton port by early-2017.  Following final transport of the low grade fines, the area will be re-contoured, cross ripped and seeded in accordance with standard site procedures.

 

All infrastructure and developed land at the Ruvidini rail transfer facility in Mullewa (30.91ha) will remain for the short to medium term.  This facility has been in care and maintenance since late 2014.  Future uses for the site are still being evaluated.

 

Version 9.0 of the Tallering Peak Mine Closure Plan (MCP) was approved on 16 February 2015.  Version 10.0 of the MCP was submitted to the DMP on 31 October 2016.

Data Verification Method

Disturbance data has been verified through a combination of orthophotography generated in late-2014 and surveying where new rehabilitation has occured since the spatial data was collected. Several assets have been transferred to the Wandina Station pastoral lease holder via a legal agreement. Therefore no further rehabilitation is required on these assets, such as bitumen access roads, previous camp areas for use as stock yards and fencing.
